"¡Mirad cuán bueno y delicioso es habitar los hermanos juntos en armonía!" Este breve salmo usa dos vívidas imágenes — el aceite de la unción y el rocío del Hermón — para describir la bendición de la comunidad cristiana genuina.

The Exclamation of Wonder

"Behold!" — look at this! David calls people to notice something wonderful. Unity among brothers is not merely pleasant — it is an observable wonder worth pointing out. In a world of conflict and competition, genuine harmony is counter-cultural and beautiful.

The Oil Image (v.2)

The unity is like precious oil poured on Aaron's head, flowing down his beard onto his robes. This is the anointing oil of the High Priest — consecrating, fragrant, overflowing. Unity is priestly — it consecrates the community for God's service. The overflow suggests abundance that cannot be contained.

The Dew Image (v.3)

Like the dew of Hermon falling on the mountains of Zion. Hermon's dew was legendary in the ancient Near East — abundant, life-giving, refreshing in a dry land. Unity brings life-giving refreshment to the community. Where brothers dwell together, God commands blessing and life forevermore.

Applications for Today

Church unity is not uniformity of opinion but harmony of love and purpose. It requires humility, forgiveness, and choosing relationship over being right. The blessing that flows from genuine unity — the commanded blessing of God — is worth the sacrifice of ego it requires.
