The breastplate protected the vital organs, especially the heart. The righteousness referred to here is both the imputed righteousness of Christ (justification) and the practical righteousness lived out in daily life (sanctification). Spiritual Significance: Righteousness guards the heart against guilt, shame, and accusation. When the enemy accuses believers of unworthiness, the righteousness of Christ stands as an impenetrable defense.

Spiritual Significance: Faith extinguishes the fiery darts of doubt, fear, temptation, and accusation that Satan launches. Active, living faith renders these attacks powerless.

The helmet protected the head, the command center of the body. Salvation encompasses past deliverance from sin's penalty, present deliverance from sin's power, and future deliverance from sin's presence. The hope of complete salvation guards the mind against despair and discouragement.
Spiritual Significance: The helmet protects thoughts, beliefs, and mental strongholds. Assurance of salvation defends against doubts about God's love, acceptance, and eternal security.

- Righteousness: Have I confessed known sin and am I walking in obedience?
