The Power of Stillness

Psalm 46:10

Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.

Devotional Reflection

In our fast-paced world, we are constantly bombarded with noise—from our phones, our schedules, and even our own racing thoughts. The command in Psalm 46:10 to 'be still' is not merely a suggestion for relaxation; it is a divine invitation to cease striving and to recognize who God is. The Hebrew word for 'be still' (raphah) means to let go, to sink down, or to become helpless. It is an active surrender of our control and anxieties. When we are still before God, we acknowledge that He is sovereign over our circumstances, our relationships, and our future. We stop trying to manipulate outcomes or fix problems in our own strength. Instead, we fix our eyes on the One who holds all things together. This stillness is not passive but a deliberate act of worship. It is in these quiet moments that we hear His still, small voice and feel His peace that surpasses all understanding. Today, set aside a few minutes to be completely still—no distractions, no multitasking. Let your heart whisper, 'You are God, and I am not. I trust You.'

Today’s Prayer

Heavenly Father, forgive me for the noise and worry that fill my days. Teach me to be still before You, to release my grip on control, and to find my rest in Your sovereignty. Help me to know You more deeply and to trust Your plans. In Jesus' name, Amen.
