My Identity in Christ: What the Bible Says About Who You Are

One of the most transformative truths in Scripture is that believers have a new identity in Christ. This study examines key biblical declarations about who you are in Christ - forgiven, adopted, redeemed, sealed, and more - and how understanding your identity changes how you live.

Forgiven and Cleansed

Ephesians 1:7: In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace. The Christian identity begins with forgiveness - not earned but received. 1 John 1:9: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Identity in Christ is not built on performance but on what Christ has already accomplished. You are not someone who is trying to be forgiven - you are someone who is forgiven.

A New Creation

2 Corinthians 5:17: If any man be in Christ", he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. The new creation language points back to Genesis 1. In Christ, God does not merely repair the old - he creates something genuinely new. The old patterns of thought, desire, and identity have passed away in principle; the new has come. This is not a description of perfection achieved but of position received. You are someone being renewed from the inside out by the Spirit.

Sealed and Secure

Ephesians 1:13-14: In whom ye also trusted...ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest of our inheritance. A seal in the ancient world was a mark of ownership and security. The Holy Spirit seals the believer - marking them as belonging to God and guaranteeing the full inheritance to come. Romans 8:38-39: Neither death, nor life...nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Your security is not based on your grip on God but on his grip on you.
