Ruth: Loyal Love
Ruth chose loyalty to Naomi at great personal cost. Her hesed placed her in the lineage of Christ (Matt. 1:5). Grace uses faithful choices of ordinary people for extraordinary purposes.
Esther: Courage Under Providence
When her people faced genocide, Mordecai said: Who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this? Esther responded: If I perish, I perish. God is never named in Esther yet his hand is on every page.
Mary of Bethany: The Better Part
Mary appears three times in the Gospels, always at Jesus feet. Her extravagant anointing drew criticism. Jesus defended her: Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her (Mark 14:9).
Mary Magdalene: First Witness
Delivered from seven demons, Mary followed Jesus, stood at the cross, and was first at the tomb. Jesus called her by name: Mary. She became apostle to the apostles. Grace transforms the most broken into the most faithful witnesses.
