A Gift Wrapped in Today

Psalm 118:24

This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Devotional Reflection

Each morning, we wake to a blank canvas—a day untouched by our mistakes or worries. Yet how often do we rush through it, burdened by yesterday's regrets or anxious about tomorrow's demands? The psalmist reminds us that today is not an accident or an obligation; it is a deliberate creation of the Lord. He has made this day with purpose, filled with opportunities to experience His grace, to love others, and to grow in faith. Rejoicing does not mean ignoring pain or pretending everything is perfect. Rather, it is a conscious choice to trust that God is sovereign over every hour, even the difficult ones. When we see the day as a gift, we begin to notice His fingerprints: a kind word from a stranger, a moment of unexpected peace, the beauty of a sunset. These are not coincidences but invitations to be glad. Let us not waste today by living in the past or future. Instead, let us open our hands and hearts to what God has placed before us now. He is in this moment, and He is good. Rejoice, for the Lord has made this day—and He has made it for you.

Today’s Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for this day. Help me to see it as Your gift, not a burden. Teach me to rejoice in Your goodness, even in small things. Calm my anxious thoughts about tomorrow and free me from the weight of yesterday. Let me live fully in Your presence today. In Jesus' name, Amen.
